The aim of our service is to help older people who may be feeling lonely and isolated by providing the stability of a loyal friend who will regularly visit them at home, providing mutual friendship and companionship.

It gives the older person the opportunity to discuss day to day worries with their visitor who can provide reassurance and assistance with finding out about local services.

Our visitors are carefully matched to an older person living nearby so that both parties can gain mutual enjoyment from their friendship.

If you feel you could help an older person by visiting them at a time to suit your convenience (evenings and weekends are OK too) please give us a call for further details.

Woodside Cottage extension for comments to SHBC

Firstly an update from June Green.

There has now been an extension and people have until February 19 to send in objections to planning application 15/0994, Woodside, Chapel Lane, Bagshot, in which Shanly Homes are applying to build 40 homes consisting of 1 x 1 bedroom, 14 x two bedroom, 9 x three bedroom, 15 x four bedroom and 1 x 5 bedroom houses with two accesses on to Chapel Lane (one serving the affordable housing element) – which means a potential 80 more vehicles, plus service vehicles (deliveries, dustcarts and the like) using very narrow Chapel Lane and surrounding roads which are already heavily used by vehicular and pedestrian traffic going to and from the school. If you think this is a really bad idea send your objection to the planning officer handling this application, Duncan Carty, at Surrey Heath Council offices but make sure you get it in by February 19. You can get the full details and documentation on www.surreyheath.gov.uk, search for application 15/0994 under planning application search.

Secondly from me …….

The extension has come about as Shanly slightly changed the remit. Previous letters of objection are still counted, but there is always still space for a few more. There are also other reasons why the site is not suitable, loss of green space, the field is a natural water meadow so risk of flooding to this and possibly other areas,  Bagshot infrastructure is already struggling etc  An Action Group has been set up but they do need the support of the village.  Tina C

Carol Singing for local charities – we need you!!

tree
Dear all,
It is this time of year that some of us gather outside shops and ‘entertain’ shoppers with our renditions of Christmas Carols and seasonal songs to raise money for various local charities. We always welcome members of the public to join in for a few minutes or the whole session. If you see a group of ‘mad’ singers and feel the urge, then please grab a booklet and join in singing or ringing the bells ……… and/or drop a few coins (or paper) in the collection pots.
Three sessions for local charities you may be interested in are
Thursday 17th December 5.30 – 7.30pm Waitrose Bagshot to raise funds for Harper Asprey Wildlife Rescue
Friday 18th December 5.30 – 7.30 Sainsburys Watchmoor Park Bagshot based Lisa May Foundation
Thursday 24th December 12noon to 2pm Sainsburys Watchmoor Park again for Lisa May Foundation.
It is a great way to support a charity and singing is a great stress reliever!  Thank you Tina Carney

Connaught School are collecting used stamps!!!!

Istamps

It’s getting to that time of year that Christmas cards starts falling through the letterbox from friends & family far and wide and attached to those letters & cards could be ‘unseen money’ – well to us at Connaught School anyway!

By bringing the envelope with the stamp attached into school, we can raise some valuable funds for our children and it doesn’t cost you a thing! And more importantly, if those stamps happen to be from overseas – we can raise even more money.

You can either save the stamps up and drop them in the special ‘stamp collection’ box near the front office or if you know a family with a child at Connaught, pass them onto them.

We will then collect them all and send them off for weighing and payment.
There are some golden rules though and the stamps must be:
• Recently collected and unpicked (i.e not been pulled off the envelope)
• A gap of at least 1cm around the stamp
• The perforations of the stamp must be damage free

So, please start stamp collecting now (it’s never too late too start a new hobby) and help us raise some funds for free!
