Village community clean-up 2
Saturday 28 September
Our second community clean-up repeated the success of the first, even though not as many people attended.
We concentated on roads and paths, and also School Lane field, ending up with many bags of litter taken out of the environment.
A big ‘thank you’ to all who participated.
Organised by The Bagshot Society to make our village an even better place.
The AGM was held on Wednesday 18 September in the Brook Church. The revised constitution was approved and three new members were elected to the committee. The AGM business was followed by cheese and wine.

Heritage Open Days provide an opportunity to see places that are not normally readily accessible. This year the places that are open include St Tarcisius First World War Memorial Church, Bagshot Chapel, and a twilight graveyard tour at St Perter’s Frimley, plus several talks.

Having noted our feedback concerning the eventual removal of all the rubbish that was collected, Daniel Harrison (Executive Head of Business, Surrey Heath Borough Council) has written to the Bagshot Society “… despite these issues it seems that your event was a great success both in terms of supporting community involvement and promoting civic pride.”
While The Bagshot Society organised the event, its success is down to all those residents who take pride in our village and turned out to support. Give yourself a pat on the back!

A very big ‘thank you’ goes to the dozens of volunteers (including several of our local councellors) who helped with the Village Clean Up.
We met in the car park on Sat 25 May 2019 at 10am and were issued with tools and hi-viz tabards (and the inevitable safety briefing, though very necessary as no one knew what might be lurking in the undergrowth) before making our way to three locations – the High Street and Wardle Close by the stream, the path from Guildford Road to the station, and the area surrounding the football pitch on Connaught Park.
Undergrowth and tree branches that were, or were likley to, impede the use of paths were cut back and huge quantities of litter collected. This was mostly drink cans, bottles and paper, but also many other items that should have been taken to the tip, such as electrical equipment, old toys, furniture and building materials. There was even a Gateway supermarket trolly (how many readers recall just how long ago it was that our supermarket was called Gateway?).
A few of our volunteers who were on their way to the Connaught Park area.
It was amazing how much we cleared in just over 2 hours. At the end all the rubbish was left in front of the Parish Hall to be collected by Amey on behalf of the local council.
The village is a much nicer place thanks to everyone’s efforts.
The clear up was organised by Nick and Andy on behalf of The Bagshot Society with financial support from Surrey Heath Borough Council using funds allocated by central government (Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government) specifically for community clean-ups.
The tools, etc, remain ours for future use. Already community-minded people are asking when the next clean-up will be and suggesting areas to be addressed.
A further presentation of information takes place on Sat 1st June from 10am – 2pm in the Church Centre behind St Anne’s Church.
Earlier in the year McCarthy & Stone held a ‘consultation’ at which they displayed their proposals for a retirement and care home development on the site of Jack’s fish & chips. They also submitted a planning application to the council. There were many objections to the proposals.
They have now announced this further ‘information day’ to present revised plans which they describe as a “less bulky design that more closeley reflects the character of the local area”. You are invited to view this and to make your comments known.
Comments should be made to McCathy & Stone. Your views may also be made known to The Bagshot Society who have a composite list of comments at bagshotvillage.org.uk/planning/181083.php. Once they submit revised plans to the council you will be able to make your views known to them.

Please can as many people as possible complete the Traffic Survey, which has been compiled by the Chapel Lane Action Group. This will close on 19th May.

A popular homecare provider based in Camberley is giving away its first ever community grant – a sum of money that could benefit one local group working with older people.
Bluebird Care Rushmoor & Surrey Heath is making available £250 to one community group or project that works with older people within the local area. The group that can best demonstrate a need for additional support will be allocated the funds. The company is particularly interested in groups working in the field of dementia and mental health for older people.
Katerina Papamichalaki, Director of Bluebird Care Rushmoor & Surrey Heath, said,
“As well as providing care and companionship services to people living in their own homes, Bluebird Care is passionate about supporting community projects and initiatives.
“So many neighbourhoods thrive because of volunteers who work tirelessly to run community groups, host events and provide services that benefit others. Much of this work involves supporting older people who, without regular coffee mornings, day-trips or lunch clubs, would be left isolated at home.”
“Bluebird Care Rushmoor & Surrey Heath offers a realistic alternative to residential care by allowing people to stay in their own homes with care and support. The care assistants’ work can involve one or more short visits a day in order to help with the everyday tasks of life. However, the service doesn’t stop there because longer duration visits are also available, including overnight help and live-in care.”
Katerina added:
“The Bluebird Care Community Grant will also come with support and advice. We want to work with a local project that gives older people an opportunity to try something new and that will add benefit to their lives.
“Examples of the type of projects we are looking for could include gardening, leisure, recreational, help with day trips or musical activities.”

Bagshot Village
