Saturday 23rd April is the date
The event starts at 2pm with Bagshot Concert Band
At approximately 2.15 – 2.30, the Bagshot Scouting Groups will be Parading down College Ride and Church Road (using the footpath)as part of their St George’s Day celebration. They will then come together to renew their Vows and hoist their flags.
At approximately 3.15 Marcus Wills (former Commander of the Queen’s Flight) will give a short address of his service to the Queen. This will be followed by a special Blessing from Rev Andreas for the Queen’s birthday and for Bagshot. The young children of Bagshot will then be asked to come along waving flags (and hopefully wearing some lovely crowns) and bring the birthday cake to the party.  This will be followed by a Loyal Toast ( a shot of Prosecco or juice/squash will be provided), cutting of the cake and Bagshot will sing Happy Birthday to dear Ma’am’.

During the whole event, Bagshot Community Pre-school will be having a wonderful cake stall, so please bring some pennies to support them, The Cedar Tree will be bringing their very popular mobile bar, Bagshot Band will be playing and hopefully some other musical talents will be coming along too. The Scouts and Guide groups will be operating some fun stalls and we are hoping some funfair rides can also make it. Frenchies Ice Cream should also be there for a special treat and of course tea and coffee will also be available.
Important points to bring to your attention.
Please note, apart from cakes, ice cream, drinks from the bar, tea and coffee, no other food is available to purchase, so please bring your own picnic or party food.

Please bring all drinks in non- glass containers where at all possible. No drinking glasses are allowed on the street.  Thank you

As this is a community event, we will be bringing as many tables and chairs to the event as we can muster and these will be lined up on the road for you to use. Hopefully, you will meet people from the village and make new friends. Sadly at this stage we cannot reserve tables/chairs, so it will be first come first served. You are welcome to bring your own and  set up around the event.

As a consequence,  Church Road from the bottom gate of the church to Vicarage Lane will be closed to through traffic from 11am to 6pm. There will still be access to Mill Close and all residencies along Church Road, apart from those who are actively involved in the event. There will be traffic management signs to remind you.
Parking  in the area will be restricted. Blue Badge holders, will be able to park in the area outside the Church Centre (using the top gate nearest to Vicarage Lane). Everyone else, please walk if at all possible, and if you do drive, please park responsibly.
As with all events like this, we can always do with help on the day. The tea and coffee stall will need to be manned from about 1.30pm – 5pm, marshals to help with directing traffic … and folk to tidy up as we go along. Please send an email to events@bagshotvillage.com if you would like to volunteer, even if just for an hour. We will be setting up the road from about 9am – so please just turn up and we will give you a job! Many hands make light work!!!  Also at the end of the day, please take as much waste away with you and maybe help to pack away a few tables and chairs and get them back to their destinations. Thank you
In case of really inclement weather, we will still be holding the event using the church and Parish Rooms – so still come along!!
Kind regards
Tina Carney

Message from Malcolm re-helping Bagshot

Chapel Lane Debacle (and all future large scale Bagshot developments)

The massive response by Bagshot villagers opposing the Chapel Lane housing development should rouse further immediate and co-ordinated action by concerned villagers to ensure that any and all future development proposals of this scale in Bagshot should be stillborn.

The decisions on the Chapel Lane development will be made by Surrey Heath Council and not by you and me, regardless of the crushing strength and number of Objection submissions. Yet we put and keep these decision-makers in power and suffer ever-increasing Council Taxes for a never-improving service, allowing the council to make planning decisions that are almost always contrary to the interests of the village (School Lane Field excepted).

Among the villagers, many of whom are known to me, are lawyers, accountants, journalists, conservation activists, bankers, business men and women, youth leaders and other professionals with deep concern for the village’s future. Many of these individuals struggle daily with the traffic congestion on the A30 and through the High Street and Guildford Road.

It may be too late to prevent the Council from making the wrong decision regarding Chapel Lane, but it surely cannot be beyond the collective strength and determination of you – the residents – to attack the intransigence and profligacy of your elected councillors. Please consider:-

  • Buy the land! The land owners have every right to secure the best price they can. The only known bidder currently is the developer. But what about you and me? I.e. a few thousand of we residents who would be forever guilty if we let the council and the developers roll over us. We must let them know we won’t stomach this any longer.
  • To achieve 1) will require a great amount of money, even if the land owners were to give the village people a helping hand. The rational way to acquire £1 million pounds (this may or may not be the asking price) is to do a deal with the council to divert a portion of our council tax – en masse – to buy the land. For example, 1,000 households x 50% council tax for 6 months ≈ £1 million. Economists and expert individuals in our midst could act on our behalf to negotiate a solution using OUR MONEY that finds its way to city hall every month. I believe our future and that of our families, now requires extreme measures! We must urgently explore every possibility.
  • Residents with knowledge, time, resources, passion and energy should gather and use all available communication methods to mobilise the whole village in a co-ordinated effort. There is no time to lose. Everyone needs to get busy. We all know what inertia will achieve…….

I will try to post this today, Monday 14th March, on village websites and send directly to individuals known to take an active interest.
