VOLUNTEERS WANTED

Bagshot Care is looking for volunteers within, or very near to, Bagshot Village and if you have some spare time and would like to join us, we would be delighted to hear from you.  You would choose the days and times to volunteer that suit you.  Bagshot Care is run from our own homes, so there is no need to travel to an office.

Bagshot Care works in two ways.  We have volunteers who, upon request, take our clients to medical appointments, shopping or wherever they need to go, within a reasonable distance.  Any expenses, like mileage, can be claimed.  We also have a different Duty Officer each day, who, in their own home, takes the calls on our mobile phone between 10 a.m. and noon weekdays, and deals with the requests by phoning our volunteers to find one who is able to help with the job on the specific day and time.

We are a very friendly organization and would make you most welcome.  If you would like to find out more, please ring our Duty Officer on 07973 560216, between10 a.m. and noon, or leave your name and phone number on our answerphone at any time and we will get back to you.  Alternatively, we are holding our A.G.M. at the Church Centre next to St. Anne’s Church at 7.30 p.m. on the 12^th July and you would be more than welcome to join us to see what we are all about, with no commitment, and to enjoy a glass of wine and some nibbles afterwards.

Surrey Heath Age Concern would love to hear from you if you are able to help us as a volunteer driver.

We have two different projects that we run and for which we are looking for help.

Tea and Memories is held at our Rainbow Café in Camberley town centre on a Tuesday afternoon between 3pm and 4.30pm. We provide a lovely tea in bone china cups and delicious cakes on our cake stands This is a free event and we would love to have another driver who could bring in some older people, stay and have tea, and then take them home again afterwards.

Tea and Chatter is held once a month on a Sunday afternoon and again we are looking for a couple of new volunteer drivers who could pick up one or two older people, take them to a tea party in a host’s home, stay with them for tea and then take them home again afterwards.

Both of these parties are great fun and enable older people to enjoy themselves, make new friends and ease isolation and loneliness.

If you feel you may be able to help as a driver for either of these events we would love to hear from you. All travel expenses will be paid plus you get a free tea!

St Anne’s is holding a “Big Brekkie” during Christian Aid week. This will take place on Sat 20th May. A cooked or continental type breakfast will be available at any time between 8am-11am in exchange for a donation towards Christian Aid ‘s many humanitarian projects. Everyone is welcome so please come and support the work of Christian Aid.

The M3 between Junctions 2 and 3 will once again close this coming weekend in both directions. 9pm Friday 19th May until 5am Monday 22nd May. This is to complete more work on the Woodland’s Lane Bridge. There will once again be diversions in place.

TESCO – Bags of Help – £4000

Our Garden Project has been chosen by the Tesco ‘bags of help scheme’. Bagshot Infant School is bidding to bag a massive cash boost from the Tesco Bags of Help initiative and we need your help.

Tesco teamed up with Groundwork to launch its community funding scheme, which sees grants of £4,000, £2,000 and £1,000 – all raised from the 5p bag levy – being awarded to local community projects. Three groups in every Tesco region have been shortlisted to receive the cash award and shoppers are being invited to head along to Tesco stores to vote for who they think should take away the top grant.

We are pleased to announce that Bagshot Infant School is one of the groups on the shortlist. We would like to improve and develop our garden and wildlife area. We believe that a garden is a wonderful way for our children to explore their senses and learn about the environment around them. It is also a healthy place of discovery and will encourage the children to love the outdoors

Voting is open in stores throughout May and June. Customers can cast their vote using a token given to them at the check-out in store each time they shop – please ask for one if it is not offered.
